Can I install a diesel engine in my car?

I currently have a ‘99 Saturn, SC2. It is starting to show its age lately and has begun burning oil. I’ve been told the two options I have are to replace the engine or buy a new car. My question is, would it be possible to take out the original engine and replace that with a diesel engine? I would like to use vegetable oil as fuel at some point after that too.
Since buying a new car sounds like the more logical explanination, are there any good diesel engine cars on the market? How much do they cost?
