Diesel Engine

ok, so i found this 1998 jeep cherokee for only $1k, but it’s a gas engine and it only gets 13 mpg, that’s not good for me. i herd i could get a used diesel engine for like $1k and i know i can then use used cooking oil, but the question is - can i put a diesel engine in a jeep cherokee? do i need to get a new transmission or other parts? can someone give me step by step directions?

I’m hoping to find a diesel engine that will drop right in without any new engine mounting brackets, transmition bell adaptors, ect. I’ve been told a 2.2 Mazda diesel from the 80 may be the answer.
